Blacksmith runs managed GitHub Actions runners and bills the CI minutes they burn. CostGraph reads every job that ran on a Blacksmith runner through your GitHub connection. The Blacksmith connection adds what GitHub can’t see: the minutes and cost Blacksmith billed, and the per-minute rate you pay. Without a Blacksmith connection, Blacksmith runner cost is estimated from GitHub at Blacksmith’s list price.

Before you begin

  • Connect GitHub for the same organization. Blacksmith requires it.
  • Create an organization token with blacksmith org-token create.
  • Note the organization login exactly as it appears on GitHub. It is case-sensitive.
  • Optional: find your price per billable minute on your Blacksmith invoice.

Connect

  1. Open Settings > Integrations and pick Blacksmith.
  2. Name the connection and pick the tenant these charges belong to.
  3. Enter the organization token as BLACKSMITH_API_TOKEN and the organization login as BLACKSMITH_ORG.
  4. Optional: enter your price per billable minute in USD as BLACKSMITH_RATE_PER_MINUTE.
  5. Select Connect.
CostGraph verifies the token with a short fetch before saving, so a wrong value fails while you are still on the form.

What you see

Usage appears per day per organization. CostGraph shows Blacksmith’s billed cost when your token can read it, and billable minutes otherwise. With a rate set, minutes are priced at your rate. Each sync reads yesterday and today, so history starts from the day you connect.

Push it yourself

Send the charges to CostGraph as FOCUS records instead. Push FOCUS data covers the connection id, the focus:write key, and the request shape.

Run the exporter

Rather than build that request yourself, run our exporter. It reads Blacksmith on a schedule and pushes the records for you, wherever you want to run it: a container, a Kubernetes CronJob, or a binary on a machine you already have.
Your Blacksmith token stays where you put it, and only the finished FOCUS records reach CostGraph. Run the exporter covers the three ways to run it and the variables it reads.

What CostGraph does with it

Records land as raw billing rows, are normalised into line items, and roll up into daily cost. From there Blacksmith spend appears in Cost Overview and in anomaly detection alongside every other provider, so runners billed for more than they actually ran stand out as waste.
