# Sail sandboxes

> Run CostGraph workflows and CI jobs in Sail sandboxes: the key to create, its permissions, and its limits

A Sailbox is a Linux VM on the Sail (Sail Research) platform: a full cloud environment designed for long-horizon agents.

The following table shows what CostGraph runs on this provider.

| Workflows | CI runners | Connect with |
| - | - | - |
| Yes | Yes | Integrations or your own dispatcher |

## Connect

Connect Sail on Integrations, and CostGraph starts sandboxes in your Sail account. You don't run anything yourself.

1. In CostGraph, go to **Integrations > Sandbox > Sail**.

2. Enter these fields:

   * **API key** (`SAIL_API_KEY`, required): A Sail API key from the Sail dashboard.

3. Click **Connect**.

CostGraph does not set a size or a lifetime on Sail. Sailboxes boot arm64 by default.

### Your own dispatcher

To keep the key out of CostGraph or reach a private network, run your own dispatcher instead.
Set `provider` to `sail` and the preceding fields as environment variables, as described in [Run your own dispatcher](https://docs.costgraph.ai/costgraph/workflows/managed-sandboxes.md#run-your-own-dispatcher).

To see what Sail costs, connect the [Sail integration](https://docs.costgraph.ai/costgraph/integrations/sail.md).

## Key and permissions

SAIL\_API\_KEY is a Sail API key created in the Sail dashboard (app.sailresearch.com); bearer auth against [https://sailbox-api.sailresearch.com/v1](https://sailbox-api.sailresearch.com/v1). A key is either user-minted or tied to the organization (whoami returns user\_id null for org keys).

No per-key scopes documented: a key belongs to one organization and sees that organization's Sailboxes. Use an organization-scoped (service) key so all Sailboxes it creates are operable by it; private-visibility Sailboxes require a user-minted key and only the creator can operate them.

## Limits

* Max lifetime optional: omit for unlimited lifetime; when set, the Sailbox is permanently terminated at expiry. ([source](https://docs.sailresearch.com/sailbox-sdk))
* Idle sleep: Sail sleeps a Sailbox only when nothing would notice (no CPU/network activity, no open connections); an idle shell does not keep it awake. ([source](https://docs.sailresearch.com/sailbox-sdk))
* 1-8 vCPU (default 8); memory up to 256 GiB; disk 8-1024 GiB. ([source](https://docs.sailresearch.com/sailbox-sdk))
* Prebuilt Debian images for arm64 and amd64; volumes are Alpha; regions not documented. ([source](https://docs.sailresearch.com/sailbox-sdk))
* New organizations have in-flight requests capped for their first ten minutes (429); exec body max 25 MiB. ([source](https://docs.sailresearch.com/sailboxes-http-api))
