# Slack

> Ask Graph AI about your spend from a Slack direct message or channel

Questions about cloud spend usually wait for someone to open a dashboard. The CostGraph app for Slack answers them where your team already talks.

Ask Graph AI about cost, recommendations, and anomalies without leaving Slack. Every answer runs as your own CostGraph account, in one of your tenants, with your role. You see the same data you see in the dashboard.

Graph AI answers are AI-generated and can be wrong. See [AI and your data](/costgraph/slack/ai-and-data) for what the app sends to its model and what it stores.

## Before you begin

* A CostGraph organization owner or admin to add the app to your Slack workspace.
* A CostGraph account in that organization for each person who asks questions.

## Add CostGraph to Slack

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Slack settings">
    In CostGraph, go to **Settings > Integrations**, open the **AI agent** category, and select **Slack**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the app">
    Click **Add to Slack**, choose your workspace, and approve. The workspace appears under **Installed workspaces**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connect your account

Each person connects one time. Send the CostGraph app a direct message, or mention `@costgraph` in a channel. The first time, CostGraph replies with a **Connect CostGraph** prompt that only you can see.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the connect page">
    Click **Connect CostGraph**. The **Connect Slack to CostGraph** page opens in your browser, and shows the tenant your answers use.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with Slack">
    Click **Connect**, then sign in to Slack as the same account that asked. CostGraph links the two accounts, and you can ask again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If the link expires, run `/costgraph connect` for a new one.

## Ask a question

* **Direct message.** Open the CostGraph app and ask. Only you see the answer.
* **Channel.** Add the app to the channel, then mention `@costgraph` in a message. Everyone in the channel can read the answer.

Ask in a direct message when the answer is for you alone. In a channel thread, mention `@costgraph` again for each follow-up.

Each answer ends with the tenant it used.

## After you install

1. Tell your team the app is available, and share this page.
2. Each person sends the app a direct message to connect their account.
3. Invite the app to the channels where your team discusses spend, such as a FinOps or platform channel.
4. Try a first question, such as "What did we spend last month?" or "What are my top recommendations?".

## Switch tenant

Answers use one tenant at a time. To change it, use either option:

* Open the CostGraph app's **Home** tab and pick a tenant.
* Run `/costgraph tenant <name>`. Without a name, the command lists your tenants.

## Commands

The following table lists the `/costgraph` commands. Only you see their replies.

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `/costgraph tenant [name]` | Switches tenant, or lists your tenants without a name |
| `/costgraph connect` | Sends you a new connect link |
| `/costgraph disconnect` | Disconnects your account from this workspace |
| `/costgraph help` | Lists the commands |

## Disconnect and uninstall

* To disconnect your own account, run `/costgraph disconnect` in Slack, or go to **Settings > Integrations**, open **Slack**, and click **Disconnect** under **Your connection**. CostGraph for Slack also appears under **Settings > Account > Connected apps**, where revoking it disconnects your account.
* To remove the app for everyone, an organization owner or admin goes to **Settings > Integrations**, opens **Slack**, and clicks **Remove** next to the workspace.

Removing a workspace disconnects every account in it.
