# Convex

> Bring Convex developer seat cost into CostGraph, pulled by us or pushed by you

Convex is a reactive backend platform, billed as developer seats plus metered
backend usage.

CostGraph reads Convex as **FOCUS 1.2** records: one per metered dimension per
deployment for the current month, plus the developer seats on the plan.

## Choose how the data reaches us

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="CostGraph pulls it" icon="cloud-arrow-down">
    You supply read-only credentials and we call Convex once a day. Nothing to run.
  </Card>

  <Card title="You push it" icon="cloud-arrow-up">
    You send us FOCUS records over the API. Credentials never leave your infrastructure.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Before you begin

* In the Convex dashboard, open team settings and create a **team access token**.
  That's enough to read usage.
* To also count developer seats, create a **personal access token** under your
  user settings instead, and note your team id from the dashboard URL.
* If your team is on negotiated pricing, have your per-developer rate to hand. We
  use Convex's published rate otherwise.

## Let CostGraph pull

1. Open **Settings > Integrations** and pick **Convex**.
2. Name the connection and pick the tenant these charges belong to.
3. Enter the values you copied. The form lists what Convex needs and marks the
   optional ones.
4. Select **Connect**.

CostGraph verifies the credentials with a short fetch before saving, so a wrong
value or a missing permission fails while you are still on the form.

<Note>
  Credentials are encrypted at rest and used only to read billing data. Revoke them in
  Convex at any time and the connection stops; nothing else is affected.
</Note>

## What you get

Convex bills backend usage above a plan allowance, so the question is rarely
what you used, it's how close you are to the line. CostGraph reports each
dimension against the allowance it counts towards, per deployment.

**You're only charged for what you actually owe.** On Professional, usage inside
the allowance is reported with its quantity and no cost, because the plan
already covers it. Only the excess is priced, at Convex's published rate, and
non-US deployments carry Convex's 1.3x regional uplift. The allowance is a team
total, so usage is added up across deployments first and the cost is attributed
back to whichever deployment drove it.

On every other plan the usage is reported without a price. Convex hard caps the
free amounts, Starter looks identical to Free from the outside, and Business
rates are negotiated, so putting a number on any of them would be a guess rather
than your bill. Those records are marked so a zero never reads as nothing owed.

AI gateway spend arrives from Convex in dollars and is reported as-is.

Seats sit alongside, priced on the plan your team is on.

## Push it yourself

Send the charges to CostGraph as FOCUS records instead. [Push FOCUS data](/costgraph/integrations/focus-push) covers the connection id,
the `focus:write` key, and the request shape.

## Run the exporter

Rather than build that request yourself, run our exporter. It reads Convex on a
schedule and pushes the records for you, wherever you want to run it: a container, a
Kubernetes `CronJob`, or a binary on a machine you already have.

```bash theme={null}
focus-exporter --provider convex --sink costgraph
```

Your Convex credential stays where you put it, and only the finished FOCUS records
reach CostGraph. [Run the exporter](/costgraph/integrations/exporter) covers the three
ways to run it and the variables it reads.

## What CostGraph does with it

Records land as raw billing rows, are normalised into line items, and roll up into
daily cost. From there Convex spend appears in Cost Overview and in anomaly
detection alongside every other provider.
